Remember When I Used to be Obsessed With...

If there were awards given for exceptional denial skills, I would have a shelf full of trophies. I have literally spent the last 6-7 weeks doing everything BUT think about my future. I cringe internally every time uni crosses my mind because it's just too painful to revisit all of last semester's confusion. I still don't really know what I'm doing with my life and a little part of me wonders what the last 6 years of hard work were all for if I'm not even enjoying what I'm doing at uni. It's sad and it hurts and I constantly feel like there's a cloud raining over the pitiful parade that is my life.

C's Reverie really was a fitting name for my old blog, now that I think about it. My high school days were literally one extended period of denial spanning more than half a decade. But I don't regret them because they made me happy. It's clichéd but ignorance really is bliss. (And if that isn't a glaring neon sign that journalism isn't for me, I don't know what is).

Anyhow, this is becoming a bit too somber for my liking so why don't we escape back into denial land? I've been meaning to do this post for a while now. It's one in which I reflect on all the epic (and painfully embarrassing) obsessions I used to have. What can I say? If Denial was my first name, Nostalgia would be my second. So without further ado, here is my "Remember When...." list which I had so much fun doing. If you've read my blog since 2009, you'd properly recognize most of these.

(WARNING: Some of these things are reaaaaaallly cringeworthy and embarrassing so please procede at your own risk.)

Remember When I Used to be Obsessed With....

1. This song?

Back when Eurovision used to be epic....you can't see right now but I'm dying of embarrassment over here. Fun fact: I started violin lessons at school because of this guy. I guess it wasn't all in vain then.

2. This movie?

I liked it so much, I tried to get my friends to watch it too (Hi Juliana!). It didn't work...

3. Scoobies?

I still have the materials to make them if anyone's interested.

4. Online dress-up games? From www.dolldivine.com. I don't even know. Stop judging me. STOP IT.

5. Sailor Moon?

(Source)

I might or might not have gone on a marathon of Sailor Moon episodes sometime in Year 8 and I may or may not have reached episode 120....

 6. Wicked?

Aka one of the few things I used to like that don't make me cringe. I liked it so much I watched it twice.

7. Personality quizzes from www.quizilla.com. There were ones ranging from "Which Harry Potter character are you?" to things like "What Kind of Cake Are You?" (Mini Lemon Tart) and "Are You Normal?" (Perfectly Normal).

8. These book series:

9. These TV shows:

I shipped Chuck x Blair, Elena x Damon and Liam x Naomi so hard.

10. Kim Yuna

She's just so perfect and beautiful and uggh.

She's so good, she deserves two videos. The first one is to the James Bond theme and the second one is a Les Miserables medley.

11. David Tennant

12. My beautiful baby Taemin

13. Pokemon

Shaddup. As if you didn't have a Pokémon faze.

14. Rurouni Kenshin, Fruit Basket & Vampire Knight

15. Point and click games from www.lazylaces.com

16. Boomshine! Fuck yeah!

17. Colour changing nail polish

18. Dream High, Hana Kimi, You're Beautiful and of course, goold ol' Boys Over Flowers

So we meet again, Lee Min Ho's curly hair.

19. ...and yellow fire hydrants from LA.

/end list

Oh god, I really did have questionable tastes in everything didn't I? Ah well, what's done is done. Plus, thinking about all these things was actually very therapeutic. I feel a strange sense of closure after doing this. You guys should try it too!

Here's a bit of background music to get you into a flower spawning mood:

There's no music video for the song so you'll just have to make do with that one picture.

You ready guys? Here we go:

Step 1: Cut the paper like you mean it and cut it good (no misfit squares 'cause this ain't glee bitch)

Step 2: Make mini Olympic torches

Step 3: Make more Olympic torches

Step 4: And more!

Step 5: And even more!!

Step 6: UNTIL YOU HAVE A WHOLE ARMY OF MINI OLYMPIC TORCHES READY TO DO YOUR BIDDING MUHAHAHAHAHA!!

Step 7: Bust out that flower power

Step 8: You are a spring fairy on crack...so keep making flowers

Step 9: Stick 'em into a ball

Step 10: Add more flowers to the little stubby branches so they look a little less nekkid

Step 11: Pimp out them flowers.

Step 12: A little bit of bling never hurt nobody.

Step 13: And that's it. Whatcha waiting for? Instagram dat joint!

Okay just kidding. Here's a real tutorial (thankfully not written by me).

There are lots of things I want to do in life

There are lots of things I want to do in life.

Sadly, I am not much closer to doing them than I was at the beginning of these holidays. Not unless destroying my eyes through endless marathons of TV shows and youtube videos was one of these goals (which I can tell you, wasn't).

If my life was like the similarly titled board game, I would be the one who ends up with zero life cards at the end, five bank loans and a whole bunch of blue, paper $5,000 bills. That is seriously how unfulfilled I am. You know what would earn me life cards though? Here, let me create a list:

1. Going to San Diego's Comic Con at least once in my life and sitting in on a panel (either The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones one if they're still running).

2. Going here, wherever it is:

3. Owning one of these:

4. Berry Picking with Friends

5. Living in a loft

6. Walking away from an explosion in slow motion...whilst a rock song plays to the beat of my steps:

'Cause the cool guys never look back at their explosions and take pictures with instagram....for some reason.

7. Communicating with my cute neighbor via the use of hand-drawn signs.

I feel like my childhood was cheated out of this. My neighbours are an 80-year old woman with a Chihuahua and my middle-aged aunt.

8. Running through a field of wildflowers

I actually have kind of done this before...but it wasn't like how I expected it to be. There were more bindis than flowers and I ended up getting a nasty rash up my leg which I constantly had to run under water and apply aloe vera to.

9. Walking into a high class shop and have people fawning all over me (hi materialistic Cynthia)

10. Eat unhealthy Korean street food.

(Source)

11. And of course, stroking Lee Min Ho's perfect face.

As I said before, there are lots of things I want to do in life. Wink wink nudge nudge.
